Manifest Destiny and Ethnocentrism

1. Why can we say that there was cultural diversity in the Americas even before whites arrived?For example they had different tribes, different beliefs about God,different diet depended on location,different dress codes.

Describe how Navtive Americans and Europeans had different ways of looking at how the land should be used and shared?The Native American had land for everyone they didnt need to have documents to show that they could be in there land. Also they had a religious belief that there wasnt such thing as private property.The Whites had to see legal documents for the people to live in there land.Also the titles gave people rights to own land based on there religious beliefs.
4. Explain why the idea of Manifest Destiny is an example of ethnocentrism?The whites believed that God wanted them to own and control all of the land from coast to coast regardless of what other cultures believed and wanted.

Kumeyaay Tribe

1. The Spanish rename the Kumeyaay tribe The Digueno.

Cora: Good morning everyone (entering the kitchen)

Paloma: Did you sleep well hermana?
Cora: Well not as good as I wanted to (drinking orange juice)
Mama: Well girls it’s time for me and your dad to go work at the farm I will see you girls in the afternoon
Papa: Okay girls! we will be back later we love you and take good care of your brothers (waving bye Dad and mom leave the room to go to the farm)
Paloma: So, Cora what do you think about what Papa is doing?
Cora: Well, you know I love school and that it’s not fair at all, but I am going to convince my papa to get me back to school
Paloma: I will help you hermana! (giving her a hug)

1st Latina Supreme Court Justice

Sonia Sotomayor was born in the South Bronx area of New York City on June 25, 1954.Her parents were Puerto Rican immigrants. Her mother was a nurse at methadone clinic and her father was a tool-and-die worker who died when Sotomayor was only nine years.After her father death Sotomayor mother worked hard to raise the children as a single parent. Sotomayor graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx in 1972 and entered the ivy-league Princeton University. And now she is a U.S. Supreme Court judge.

I admire Sonia Sotomayor because now that I now she became a judge I now I can become something big now.

Folk Dancing

Folk dancing occurs in a festival Japan in summer and is a time when people make offerings of food and other things to their ancestors and pray for the happiness of their ancestor's souls in the next world.

This dance is a free kind of dancing style practiced in the Tukushima Territory of Shikoku

Secret Life of Bees!

1. My favorite protagonist in the novel was May.


2. I think the message that the author was trying to tell the readers is that no matter what happens be happy with yourself and search for identity.This means to me that am happy with myself no matter what people say or think about me.

What does the "secret life of bees"have to do with racism?

Well I think because of Zach and Lilly wanting to be together.For tha fact that Lilly is white and Zach is black.

Can you relate to the story and to her experiences with racism?What experience(s) have you had deal with that are similar to Lily?

Yes I can beacuse people treat me different beacuse am a teen mom and people out there in the world talk about it and dont accept teen girl to be a mom.Well what i kan realate to her is when she denies her dad.I can relate to Lily when she says that her dad died beacuse when they ask me for my dad i just say he went to go live somewhere else.
