Posada
It is a Mexican Christmas Tradition that takes place December 16 to 24
This celebrations commemorate Mary and Joesphs cold and difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter.
Posada in spanish means lodging for shelter. Each one of this nights before Christmas a party is held in a home in the neighborhood. There is plenty of food and drinks that are made in this tradition. The recipes of La Posada are Sopa de Albondigas,Festival Salad,Vegtable Tamale Pie,Tijuana Chicken,Baked Mexican Lasaguna,Warm Apple Empanadas,Champurado,Fruit Punch. And there is a pinata that has candys inside it and they sing a song for it.
When they go ask for lodging and shelter they sing a song and the people inside the house respond to them.
Asking for shelter:
Don't be inhuman; Have mercy on us.The God of the heavenswill reward you for it.
You can go on nowand don't bother us,because if I become annoyedI'll give you a trashing.
We are worn outcoming from Nazareth.I am a carpenter,Joseph by name.
I don't care about your name:Let me sleep, because I already told youwe shall not open up.
My wife is MaryShe's the Queen of Heavenand she's going to be the motherof the Divine Word.
Are you Joseph?Your wife is Mary?Enter, pilgrims;I did not recognize you.
